Dallas Korean-American Amateur Athletes Return Home with 3 Gold Medals

Dallas athletes returned from the 98th Korean National Sports Festival basking in the glory of their outstanding achievement.
The National Korean-American Athletic Association of Dallas (President: Duk-Hwan Chang) held a press conference at the Korea House (Young-Dong Hall) on Tuesday, November 28th and honored the athletes.
Dallas team, consisted of 4 bowlers and 2 golfers, was the driving force behind Korean-U.S. team winning the 2nd overall in its international division at the 98th Korean National Sports Festival. 
Korean-U.S. team ranked 2nd overall with 5 gold medals, 4 silver, and 10 bronze; Dallas athletes won 3 of the 5 gold medals.
Soo-Min Yoo won 2 gold medals golf (individual division and team division) ; Sung-Joo Lee and Sung-Il Jung won gold in men’s 5-player team event in bowling.
Tracey Coward and Jung-Sook Kim won silver in women’s 5-player team event.
Jung-Sook Kim also won bronze in 3-player team event.
It was a dramatic win for Soo-Min Yoo on the last day of golf competition.
For two days in a row, Yoo maintained second place right behind the golfer from Los Angeles.
However, on the last day, Yoo turned the game around and snatched gold in both individual division and team division.
Korean-U.S. team had their eyes on the 3rd place overall in the international division but thanks to the outstanding performance by the Dallas team, they were able to place 2nd overall in this year’s Korean National Sports Festival.
Japanese team won the 1st place overall. 
Meanwhile, the president of the National Korean-American Softball Association and the former Senior Vice President of the National Korean-American Athletic Association of Dallas, Chul-Hyun Hwang, announced his run for the organization’s 16th president election.
Currently, Hwang is the sole candidate for this election and he is expected to be appointed as the 16th president of the National Korean-American Athletic Association of Dallas after council approval in December.
